Dr. Mike Hardman obtained his BMedSci and MBChB from Sheffield University. He trained in General Medicine (MRCP) and Clinical Pharmacology in Sheffield, Munich and Oxford, conducted basic research at the MRC Unit and University Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and was awarded his MD from the University of Sheffield. After 10 years of clinical practice and research he joined ICI Pharmaceuticals.

For 25 years he has worked in all stages of drug development across several therapeutic areas. His industry positions include: Medical Advisor in diabetes and obesity research; European anti-infective drugs team leader; Medical Director Zeneca GmbH Germany; Head of Global Metabolism and Endocrinology team; Clinical Science Director and site head of Clinical AZ Charnwood; Global Clinical Science Strategy and Education Director; Senior Director Clinical Function AZKK Japan, and VP Emerging Product Teams. He is currently a VP for AstraZeneca R&D Science Relations, UK.

He is a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, an Advisory Board member for the UK National Genetics Education and Training Centre, external examiner for King’s College London, Coordinator of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), Education and Training (E&T) project (EMTRAIN), Co-coordinator of the IMI Pharmaceutical Medicine Training Programmes project (PharmaTrain), member of the IMI EUPATI project and Chairman of the IMI E&T Cross Project Coordination Board.
